1Before you start

Confirm your route: EU/EEA/Swiss (a registration certificate) vs non-EU (a residence permit).
Gather passports and photos, proof of address (rental contract/utility bill) and proof of income or funds.
Get any required documents apostilled and translated into English or Greek.
Check the current forms and requirements on the official Civil Registry & Migration Department site.

2Tax number (TIN)

Register for a Tax Identification Number with the Cyprus Tax Department.
You’ll typically need it for work, banking and contracts.
Provide ID, proof of address and the reason you need it.
Keep your TIN confirmation somewhere safe.

3Registration certificate — Yellow Slip (MEU1) · EU citizens

Complete form MEU1 and book an appointment at your district Migration office.
Bring passport, photos, rental agreement, and proof of income/employment or self-sufficiency + health cover.
Pay the fee and collect your Yellow Slip (registration certificate).
After ~5 years of legal residence, you can apply for permanent residence (MEU3).

4Residence permit · non-EU citizens

Identify your category — employment, self-sufficiency (Category F), permanent residence by investment, digital nomad, etc.
Prepare the category-specific documents: contract, proof of funds, health insurance, clean criminal record.
Submit your application and attend any biometrics or interview appointment.
Track renewal dates and the conditions attached to your permit.

5Social insurance & employment

If employed, make sure you’re registered for Social Insurance; if self-employed, register yourself.
Keep your employment contract and payslips.
Understand your obligations — contributions and tax filing.
Keep a copy of every registration and reference number.

6Banking & address

Open a Cypriot bank account (bring passport, TIN, proof of address and income).
Register your residential address as required.
Set up direct debits for rent and utilities.
Update your address with anyone who needs it.

7Health cover

Register for GeSY (the national health system) once eligible.
Hold private health insurance until GeSY is active — it’s often a permit requirement.
Register with a GeSY personal doctor (GP).
Keep your insurance and GeSY documents together.

8Stay compliant

Diarise all renewal dates (permits, insurance) and set reminders.
File any required tax returns on time.
Keep originals plus digital copies of every official document.
